5 Space Saving Tips for your Home

February 28, 2018

Space is at a premium these days, and for many of us it can feel like there is just never enough space for all of our possessions. Whilst it can be therapeutic and useful to have a good clear-out, often we are still left with what feels like too many things for the storage we have available. Here at Buller we often work with people who are looking for storage or space saving solutions in their homes.

Here are five clever space-saving tips that could be of help…

  1. Add more shelving.
Even one shelf can make a big difference when it comes to clearing that clutter. The few inches at the top of a wall are the most underused space in a home and this can be perfect for storing those items we don’t use very often. If you’re worried a shelf filled with random objects will look messy, invest in several baskets to put on your shelves - these can hide a multitude of sins whilst still giving a neat and tidy finish.

  2. Make use of alcoves.
Most homes have at least one oddly shaped room with an alcove or recess which can be used for additional storage. You could add shelves or if the alcove is a little deeper, sliding doors will mean you now have a large cupboard which can be filled with clever storage solutions to help clear clutter from your home.

  3. Buy smart storage.
These days there are plenty of storage options on the market, and it’s fairly easy to find drawers, cupboards and other items that offer great storage whilst still fitting in with your existing decor. Look for multi-purpose items, for example under-bed storage, seats with storage beneath and so on.

  4. Consider a loft conversion.
For most houses, the loft is where you shove the Christmas tree and perhaps some old fancy dress costumes. It can actually be a brilliant space for storage if used well. Rather than just shoving boxes inside the loft hatch, you could invest in converting your loft into a room in its own right. Even if you only put a proper floor down and add some shelving, it can provide so much extra storage space if used well.

  5. Get a bespoke fitted wardrobe.
A bespoke fitted wardrobe with sliding doors can be a great way to make full use of the space you have, especially if you have irregularly shaped rooms or sloped ceilings. A bespoke fitted wardrobe can provide a wealth of storage solutions, helping you to really declutter and save space in your home.
